PlayStation 4 exclusive racer Gran Turismo Sport finally has a new release date: October 17.

The game was originally due out last November, but it was delayed after not shaping up quickly enough.

In fact, at its announce, it was looking fairly mediocre compared to the competition. By E3 last year, things had improved significantly, so here's hoping that continued into this year.

"As we approach our planned release date in November, we realise we need more time to perfect GT Sport," said creator Kazunori Yamauchi at the time.

"We do not want to compromise the experience in any way. While we cannot confirm a new release date at this time, we are more committed than ever to making GT Sport the best Gran Turismo game to date."

In a new update, Yamauchi said the game has exited closed beta, and is now entering the final stages of polish.

"We’re as keen as all of you to get the game into players’ hands, and can’t wait to hear what everyone thinks of the game when it launches in October," he said.

"We’ve strived to create something that delivers an unprecedented experience in terms of the graphics, sound, and physics simulation; an experience that can only be enjoyed on PlayStation."
